To me the book the"Stranger" was not as interesting to me for now but anyway the story goes when the main charater's mother ,Maman dies at an old people's home at Marengo. He asked his boss to take a two day off period so he can attend the funeral. It was a two hour drive to Marengo and when he got there the caretaker said he had to see the director first and both of them went to see Maman. Inside the building there were many chairs, perparing for the funeral which was set at 10 o'clock A.M. He fell asleep and then when he woke up everyone was sitting across from him and he felt like he was in the spotlight. After the session was over they had walk to the church which is in a valley and when it was over he was on his way back to Algier. When he woke up he went to the beach and he met up with Marie and they both went for a swim together. When they left the waters they decided to catch a movie together. In the morning, he had nothing to do but to look out his window and watching families go the the theater and watching his neighbors get ready for business like seeing people sweeping there floor and then it hit him that his mom was actually died.
I don't know if my element shows any hints of social commentary just yet, i would have to read more of the story before i am sure. Does anyone know anything that can be helpful?

The Stranger is initially difficult to figure out, and I’ll admit that it’s a little slow-paced. I recommend that you look up the term "existentialism" in the next week. It might help you out.
I'm thinking its suppose to to set out how boring society is...LmAo not really but in class we were told it's an inner conflict situation soo maybe as we get 2/3 into the book it will have some more obvious situations...
but i think this girl from teh beach is going to bring in some conflict dont you think?
Hey Fanny, could you make your font a bit bigger? My old eyes can't handle the squinting!
I think the climate of our book is when the guy shot the arab and started from there he started to doubt his life.
I think the social commentary is the fact that he doesn't believe himself and he think his life on the planet is just a waste of time. He doesn't care if he lives or not. I think he used to believe in faith but after so much sorrows that happened in his life he started to doubt what he once believed.
In the beginning i didn't like the story because it seemed to slow paced and boring but after awhile i started to like it because it's mainly about his life and i found it very interested when he seem so angry toward other people and especially society.
